Perpetua was originally formed in
2002. Founding members Randy Madnick (percussion, vibes,
harmonica) and Steve Burkle (piano, keyboards) added bassist
Steve Cook, drummer Joshua Carson, and guitarist Bill Hartsell
in the summer of 2005.
Originally designed to be an
enjoyable hobby, it soon became evident that there was a
chemistry and energy that offered considerable potential. After
just a few hours of initial rehearsals, a dozen tunes fell into
place, and it was clear something special had been born.
In July of 2006 we were introduced to John Bringetto (trumpet,
fluegelhorn, alto sax) and were thrilled to have him come
aboard.
Perpetua is a dynamic ensemble,
enjoying everything from lyrical ballads to straight standards
to swing to modern funk. Although we cover tunes from such
artists as Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Antonio
Carlos Jobim, Carlos Santana, John Coltrane, Vince Guaraldi,
Jerome Kern, Pat Metheny, and George Gershwin, the real focus of
the band is on our own compositions. Each band member brings a
palpable creative spirit and a good listening ear; inevitably
each rehearsal is the catalyst for two or three new tunes.
